REDWOOD FOREST
SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2009
Up early......well 9:00 AM. Breakfast next to motel...Oatmeal and English muffin.....Enough oatmeal in one bowel to feed two people. Too much...Ate half of it. Took HWY 101, which is known as the REDWOOD HIGHWAY. From Garberville, we turned into the south entrance of what is called the Avenue of the Giants. This a 33 mile stretch of tall giant redwood trees which pass through the communities of Phillipsville, Miranda, Weott, Redcrest, Pepperwood, and Scotia and Crecent City. Take a look:

AVENUE OF THE GIANTS
At Crecent City we turned onto HWY 199 which merges with HWY 5 (a freeway) . Time to get off the coast HWY with it's switchbacks and on to a freeway if we are ever going to get to Lacey, Wa. tonight. No such luck. Only got as far as Eugene, Or.....about 373 miles.....at 6:30 pm... Stayed at and Americas Best Value Inn.......not bad.(that's because it was reasonable "cheap that is) Found a KFC.....took food back to motel......ate.....worked on blog.
What should have only been a two day trip from San Fran to Lacey has become a three day adventure
