SAN FRAN
FRIDAY, AUGUST 14, 2009 SAN FRAN
Up early.....well early for us. Breakfast of Oatmeal and eng muffin....Don't go to that rest...again......YUK. Drove to Fisherman's Wharf and signed up for a bus tour.... Thought that would be the best way to see San Fran in limited time. And less walking. The first strop was Fisherman's Wharf. Now Fisherman's Wharf is the home of San Fran fishing fleet. The old factories and warehouses that once dotted the wharf are now converted into shops a and restaurants. The second stop was The Golden Gate Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge was built in 1937. At the time it was the largest single span suspension bridge in the world.
Our third stop was the Golden Gate Park. Now there's a park. One has to see it to appreciate the color and design and diverse planting from all over the world that make up the landscape of this unique park. Like the Campus in Chicago that includes museums, etc. this park includes The CA. Academy of Science, A Japanese Tea Room and a Museum.
Along the route to our next stop we saw some Victorian homes. (Jon you would appreciate these old homes)
Our fourth stop was Union Square. This is the shopping district. Like the magnificent mile in Chicago. Only Chicago is better. However, I must say that the square is a one block square park. A fun place. Benches....hot dog stands...etc.
Then of course there is Lombard street, the "crookedest street in the world.
Our final stop was Pier 39. This was a fun place. Food. Where to go.So many choices. So pricey ( I'm cheap) Naturally we bought fish......Music. Especially a young man who really knew how to play Classical Spanish Guitar. He was so good I put 5.00 in his pot. More than that I bought one of his tapes (10.00) for Luke. My guitar play grandson. (a Stilwell) Here are some photos from our bus tour:

After we left the Bus Tour we took a two hour self guided tour of the city. AND OF COURSE I GOT LOST. I had to
engage my GPS to help me find my way back to our motel. Tired.....needed a snack....good old Mc Donalds.......Picked up some Hamb....and took them to the motel.
Packed--Wrote for the Blog.....
We leave in the AM for Lacey, Wa....(where my sister Judith lives) We will be traveling along the coast on HWY 1. This coastline HWY is a scenic HWY. A HWY that will take us through some high and low narrow roads zig-zagging around and across the mountain range that borders the coast. Until then....sleep tite.
