GRAND CANYON

TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY AUGUST 4-5 2009 GRAND CANYON
IN THE BOOK OF GENESIS 1-9 WE READ
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light fro m the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning--the first day.And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning--the second day. And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.

The narrator of FILM "Grand Canyon, The Hidden Secretes" produced for the National Geographic Society said this:

Man clings to the edge of eternity. Our passion to know propels us to the stars, but we are humbled by the secrets of the earth. Is this great canyon the work of God, or a symphony of nature? Is it the summation of all grandeur or the grave of the world.

The following photos describe what we saw better than I could in words:

VIEW FROM MATHER POINT

VIEW FROM YAVAPAI POINT & ENTRANCE TO CENTER

VIEWS OF SOUTH RIM OR DESERT RIM

MINING ON HORSESHOE MESA

MORE VIEWS OF THE SOUTH RIM

HANCE RAPIDS

THE MOST IMPORTANT SITE OF ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all. If you want to get a better look at each photo, place cursor on photon and click LEFT BUTTON. The image will enlarge to full screen. You will note that their is a scroll bar at the bottom and on the left. With the use of the cursor you can move image from right to left or up and down. This will give you a panoramic view. Grand Canyon just overwhelms one's senses. The awesome beauty ....scope....landscape....vastness....depth......

WE visited the South Rim which has an elevation of about 7000 feet. The Canyon is about 18 miles wide and about one mile deep. The Colorado River which runs through it is about 277 miles long.

People have lived on the Colorado Plateau for thousands of years. The Paleo-Indians, nomadic hunter/gatherers who lived here 10,000-12,000 years ago, left the earliest evidence.

The first non-native American to discover the Grand Canyon of Arizona was Captain
Don Lopez de Cardenas, of the Coronado's Expedition.

The Colorado River at what is now called Hance Rapids drops 30 feet.

We spent two days at and in Grand Canyon. By the time we returned to our motel and had supper it was 7:00 pm. and we were so tired we just flopped into bed. I would sleep for about one hour, get up and write something about our experience that day.

We leave Grand Canyon in the morning with a deep sense of awe of what we have just experienced and a real sense of appreciation for this great country of ours But more than that for the evidence of God's handiwork. The Psalmist rightly declares the Heavens Declare the Glory of God and the firmament his
handiwork.

Tomorrow I will write about our stop at Hoover Dam as we headed towards our good old friends,
The Pedersens.
